31 Days: do something for yourself
Posted by kathryn in Seasonal Health and Work life integration
I’m sure you’ll like this task a lot better than yesterday’s. Today in 31 Days to Better Energy I want you to take at least 15 minutes out for yourself.
Why?
It’s very easy to get caught up in your “to do” list and leave no time for yourself. You may work all week and then spend Saturday ferrying the kids around, doing the grocery shopping, tidying the house, mowing the lawn. This doesn’t leave a whole lot of time left for YOU.
If you’re constantly caught up doing the practical stuff and things for other people, then it can leave your batteries drained of energy. We all need time out, to take a deep breath, re-focus and basically chill-out. Even 15 minutes of time to yourself will make you feel better.
Today’s task
If you can’t rememeber the last time you laid on the couch with the Saturday papers, then today’s task is for you. Today, I want you to take at least 15 minutes out for yourself. Read the paper at your local cafe, have a manicure, read a book, have a bath, play with the dog, meditate – do something that you want to do rather than something you should do.
This post is part of a series I’m writing over August called 31 Days to Better Energy. For more information and to view the other tasks, take a look at the introductory post.

I’ve been into the centre of Oxford today which I hardly ever do and treated myself to tea and cake in a cafe, as well as buying some bargain ‘props’ for taking pictures. I think the important thing about this kind of treat for me is not necessarily what I do, but just being away from the computer and the phone for a few hours
Sounds like a lovely way to pass a few hours Sophie. About once a month I slip away during the day and go to the cinema. As you say, it’s important to get away from your desk, computer and phone. I also find films a great way to clear my head and change focus.
