Hi Kathryn
This is a great series of posts on what you eat each day – so simple and so helpful to see how to eat well. I also am admiring of your discipline in taking photos of almost every meal and snack! Thanks for sharing this.
When you eat ricotta cheese and food in the same category, are they ‘whole fat’ or do you eat reduced fat dairy and cheeses? Thanks! :)
Thanks for your comment Johanna. It has taken some discipline / planning to remember my camera each day! Glad you’re enjoying the series.
LeAnne – it depends. I usually buy low fat or fat free yoghurt. On the rare occasion I buy milk, I get reduced fat or skim milk. I don’t specifically buy low fat cheeses, but I do use more of the naturally lower fat ones. As you’ll see from this week, my everyday cheese choices are cottage cheese, ricotta and fetta. I also tend to buy Danish fetta – which is lower in fat than most of the others. Yellow cheeses and other higher fat dairy are occasional treats.
Without a doubt this menu has been my favourite so far and the one that I can relate to the most. Fruit, yoghurt, spinach, eggs, sweet tart and pasta are definitely my kinds of food.
I have to say I feel like I am on a different planet to you Kathryn and I guess to a lot of your readers as well. I cannot believe how well-disciplined you are in your diet and quite frankly if I were to eat like this all the time I am sure that I would feel denied. Most people I know couldn’t go for a week without some kind of chocolate. As for me I generally tend to have a piece at least every second day if not every day. I have a weakness for sweet food, always have, but over the years I have definitely reduced portion size and it feels nice to indulge in a little sweetness without going overboard.
I love cheese, marinated vegetables dripping with olive oil and lots of Italian or French type breads. Don’t get me wrong, my diet is loaded with fresh fruit and vegies and my family always get a homecooked meal 6 days a week. I actually thought I was doing a good job until I saw your daily meals. My son and husband also love butter and can’t have any kind of bread or sandwich without lashings of it.
But we are an active family and we are a slim family. And our diet varies enormously to yours. It has been an interesting and fascinating exercise to see your meals Kathryn and I even bought a bottle of tamari the other day. Not sure what to do with it yet, but I will think of something as soon as the big bowl of home made tiramisu and chocolate cointreau sauce is polished off.
Dear lady – you are amazing!
Hi there Mariana. It’s all about finding the way to eat that suits you best. While you may look at my diet and think it’s overly disciplined and rigid, it’s the way I like to eat. I simply feel better when I eat this way.
I love food too much to totally cut out everything I love, in the name of health. I drink wine and eat cake and ice-cream. I like chocolate, but it’s not something I get that excited about and I’d probably have it about twice a month. There are other things I’d prefer to eat.
So this is my way of eating. But it’s not the only way to eat healthily. There are shortcomings and holes in my diet. However, it suits me.
