What I'm eating

  • Friday lunch: rye bread sandwich with inches of baby spinach, mushrooms, cheese, artichoke hearts
  • Thursday afternoon: eating an apple and some seed filled crackers
  • Thursday lunch: the final leftover soy bombs, with a big pile of rocket leaves & some tahini dressing.
  • Tues lunch with my parents. Pide bread sandwich with avocado, pesto, greens & fetta. Positively delicious. And a coffee.
  • Tuesday breakfast: kamut toast (from Sonoma) with tahini and mum's home-made plum jam

Quicklinks

Posted by kathryn in Miscellanea

  • Something different to an everyday spag bol: It’s Mallika from Quick Indian Cooking’s aloo keema or mince with potatoes and Indian spices. Serve with a big green salad and you have a delicious meal.
  • A corn recipe: When The Wednesday Chef says something is “the most wonderful ten-minute, four-ingredient recipe you’ve made all YEAR” then I sit up and listen. She’s the person who first taught me about Heston Blumenthal’s amazing broccoli and she knows her vegies. So here it is caramelised corn with fresh mint.
  • Stop worrying in the kitchen: Brilliant quote from Mark Bittman about worrying less and cooking more. Wise, wise words.
  • Avocadoes: Lili from Pikelet and Pie has posted the second in her series From garden to plate The first was all about asparagus, and the latest edition is about avocadoes.
  • Asparagus & haloumi: It’s such a good flavour combination and asparagus is in season down here, but what I particularly like about Entertaining Made Easy’s version is the lemon chive dressing. Delicious.
  • Lentil & bean dishes: From Nigel Slater no less. Love the sound of the Butter beans with mustard and tomatoes, plus there’s a Sausage and lentil supper recipe.

How lovely to have such a recipe packed quicklinks edition Kathryn

I’ve bookmarked the caramelised corn recipe to try out as it sounds fantastic and a great standby recipe (and I heart mint).

Had a friend around for dinner last night and enjoyed both the aloo keema and corn recipe – served with lightly toasted pita as suggested, as well as toasted rosti, poppadums, hommus and yoghurt – it was lovely and even better – leftovers for another time! The corn was so simple and really really yummy!

I’ve heard good things about the corn from another friend and I’ll definitely be making it this week. Renee – your dinner sounds positively delicious.

Those lentil and bean dishes sound lovely! And his turn of phrase is super, “a supper made of desperation and imagination” never sounded so good.
